Naperville Soccer Association is proud to announce that effective May 1st, NSA will become an inaugural member of the BVB (Borussia Dortmund) International Academy system of clubs in the United States. This partnership represents a real and authentic partnership with the BVB Academy in Dortmund, Germany. NSA will be one of only seven inaugural clubs that were selected in the country, and the only one in the upper Midwest, that is an official partner of the BVB International Academy.
Effective May 1, 2019 Naperville Soccer Association will proudly operate as BVB International Academy- Illinois. While our name will change, our history, vision, mission, coaches, ownership and player focus will not. We fully embrace the amazing history and success NSA has earned in the past, as well as what this opportunity earns us and our players for the future.
Our accomplishments are many and include; Two National Championships, 10 Regional Championships, 33 State Cups, an elite coaching staff and an excellent reputation in player development, all of which are key factors that have offered us this prestigious opportunity. Our leadership team is excited to embark on this next chapter and as a club we fully support the rebranding of the club. All spring teams will remain the same and our May tryouts will continue as scheduled. We are not selling our Club and we will continue to own and operate this amazing club as a not-for-profit soccer club in the tradition of excellence that we have demonstrated for the past 33 years. We will continue to control our day to day operations, staff, administration and our teams with the same integrity and character that we were founded on.
This decision was made so that our Club can provide our players with incredible opportunities that no other area Clubs currently offer. Becoming a part of the BVB International Academy will provide amazing opportunities exclusive to our players. As an official partner of the BVB International Academy, all teams will be allowed to wear the official BVB Dortmund Champions League uniform, to participate in the BVB Development Curriculum, methodology and ID camps that are recognized as one of the best in the world.
For our players, the opportunity is extraordinary! With NSA’s position as the headquarters for the Illinois area, we will work alongside BVB International Academy to locally host its Regional ID Camps and to facilitate their National ID camps. These camps will provide our players the opportunity to participate in ID Clinics with staff from the BVB Academy in Germany and across the United States to identify players who may have the potential to one day play with BVB Youth Academy teams in Germany. Through and with the BVB International College Athlete Placement (CAP) program, these ID camps held both regionally and nationally will also create further exposure for our players to college coaches.
The direct connection, player ID opportunities, the college program and much more will also allow us to create year-long programming for players interested in playing through the summer. Therefore, not only will the training standard be raised even further by an elite curriculum and continuous coaching education pathway, but our players will now have opportunities to play and train with some of the best players in the country. Our coaching staff will have close connectivity to the BVB Academy in Germany. We will use their curriculum to guide training and learn all that we can about the outstanding BVB methodology. Our coaches will participate in monthly calls and complete a coaching accreditation program to fully understand and implement the standards and quality of ‘The Borussia Dortmund Way.’ Our coaches will also have the unique opportunity to train at the BVB Academy in Dortmund, Germany and to learn and fully understand the BVB training philosophy.
Currently there are over 30 American players playing in the Bundesliga system (Germany’s top soccer division) in both the men’s and women’s programs. Integrating with Borussia Dortmund, the same system that has supported Christian Pulisic and Jadon Sancho’s development, creates an unparalleled pathway for our players to reach the highest level of the game. This pathway is real and one of our players may have the opportunity to experience it. These incredible opportunities will be the same for the girls as the boys. BVB is currently increasing their efforts to scout and identify young talent (both boys and girls) for both regional and national events across the U.S. We will be a part of 7 affiliates across the United States including; North Texas, Kansas, Central Texas, the Houston area and Tennessee! Just as NSA was the first youth girls’ soccer club in Naperville, we are again pioneering a new pathway of opportunities for our players here in the great state of Illinois.
It is important to note that our distinction as a BVB International Academy and official partner is so much more than simply providing a summer camp that is attended by a member of a professional international football club for a week. You may have heard of other area soccer Clubs that only employ a marketing company to then state that they are a “partner” with an international club and then only conduct a summer camp. However, our partnership is a genuine BVB academy affiliation which is a complete year-long curriculum with authentic Regional and National ID camps and pathways to BVB and its “True Player Pathway.” This is why we will be changing the name to BVB International Academy Illinois, why we have permission to wear the official Champions league uniforms and to be a true partner with BVB Dortmund and receive all of the complete and genuine benefits that these other Clubs do not and can not.
A few of the amazing opportunities that our coaches and players will have in the future, include but are not limited to:
- Our teams will wear full Borussia Dortmund uniforms,
- Our True Player Pathway will connect with the youth Academy in Dortmund, Germany
- BVB Academy coaches from Germany will be part of the Regional and National ID Clinics
- Camps and clinics for us here in Naperville
- Coaching staff will be held to the same standards as the youth coaching staff in Germany
- Coaching Accreditation
- College Athlete Placement (CAP) Program with a full time CAP program director working directly with our regional CAP Program director
- Monthly calls with other BVB international Academies across the United States
Becoming BVB International Academy means that we will transition from Nike to Puma, who is an official sponsor of Borussia Dortmund. We are extremely excited to be a part of the PUMA family! Their grassroots efforts have elevated their brand experience and reach amongst young athletes. PUMA, long recognized throughout the world as “The Football Brand,” will now be providing us with our uniforms and other apparel opportunities and they will also be playing an integral role in the overall support of our club, our coaches, our players and our families. PUMA is committed to supporting the growth of our club through its marketing and in bringing the full measure of is global resources to help us achieve our mutual goals. As a major sponsor of national collegiate showcases here in America, such as Disney and its many other showcases across the country, we are excited for the opportunities that this partnership will also provide for our players. We believe that with PUMA’s marketing and outreach, we will attract even more players to the quality club that we have created over the past 30 years. The change to PUMA will also pave the way for us to change our Labor Day tournament name from ‘The Naperville Nike Invitational’ to ‘The Naperville Puma Invitational.’
NSA’s President/founder Jeff Bradley, our administrators and our four Directors and Coaches Neil, Tom, Leslie and Ashley were all present for the many informational meetings, presentations, phone calls and discussions that have led to our decision to become Borussia Dortmund International Academy. We were all fortunate to meet with the CEO and Directors of BVB International Academy when they flew to Chicago to meet with us on April 15th. After a robust meeting and discussion, they attended our Monday night training and stated how excited they were to have NSA be their Illinois area host for its BVB International Academy. They recognized the quality of our coaches, players and organization and that is a tribute to each of us who have worked so hard to create an outstanding experience for our players!
We are beyond excited at the amazing opportunities this creates for our players, families, coaches and the club! We’d like to thank all of our current members for their commitment to the club and we are proud that our history of success has helped us once again become pioneers in youth soccer!
